'A Star is Born' again with Bradley Cooper, Lady Gaga Pop singer Lady Gaga and Oscar-nominated actor Bradley Cooper are joining forces to remake classic Hollywood musical drama "A Star is Born," Warner Bros said on Tuesday. Cooper, 41, who has been nominated for four Oscars including acting and producing 2014's "American Sniper," will make his directorial debut on the movie, while Lady Gaga, 30, will make her feature film lead acting debut. Warner Bros did not give a release date for the project. "A Star is Born," the story of an aspiring young starlet who arrives in Hollywood and is helped by an aging leading man, was first told on the big screen in 1937 with Janet Gaynor and Fredric March. It was remade with Judy Garland and James Mason in 1954 and with Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson in 1976. In the new film, Grammy-winning Lady Gaga will compose and perform new songs. The singer made her television acting debut in FX's "American Horror Story: Hotel," playing the vampire Countess, which landed her a Golden Globe best actress in a limited series/TV movie award. Hollywood classic 'Ben-Hur' gets modern remake "Ben-Hur", the 1959 movie epic that won 11 Oscars, has received a Hollywood revamp -- but its makers say the famed chariot race still relies on humans and horses, not special effects. "Boardwalk Empire" actor Jack Huston takes on the role for which the late Charlton Heston was named Best Actor, playing the young Jewish noble Judah Ben-Hur, who is sent into slavery by Roman occupiers but returns to take his revenge. "If you think about the climate of the world today -- and this movie is set 2,000 years ago -- you realize the world hasn't changed that much," Huston said at the film's Tuesday premiere. "Being a beautiful action movie with all of the thrills and excitement, it's still a very serious movie for our time." Producer Mark Burnett said that for the chariot-racing sequence -- nine minutes long in the original -- special effects had been used only for crash scenes. "The actual horses were ridden and driven by the actors. It was 32 horses, eight chariots round and around that arena at full speed, sometimes on one wheel," he said. "When the horses have crashes, that's all special effects -- but the rest of the racing is all the real horses with the actors." "Ben-Hur" hits cinemas worldwide from Wednesday. Kanye West takes 'Pablo' pop-up fashion stores global Rapper and fashion designer Kanye West is going global, opening pop-up stores in 21 venues this weekend to sell his "Life of Pablo" merchandise. West, 39, announced the move on Twitter on Wednesday with a map of the stores that will be located in cities in the United States, Australia, England, Germany, South Africa and Singapore. He gave no details but Vogue said the stores would be open for three days only and that the exact location would be announced 24 hours in advance on the musician's website. West, currently on a U.S. tour promoting his "The Life of Pablo" album, has become a sought-after fashion designer, launching his latest collection of casual wear at New York's Madison Square Garden in February. Prices for West's Yeezy line of sneakers have fetched 10 times their sticker price, with some pairs fetching more than $4,000 in the re-sale market. A New York pop-up store in March for the Pablo merchandise had shoppers lining up for hours to get a piece of the clothing. Vogue said each city getting the pop-up stores this weekend will have its name spelled out on t-shirts and hoodies in gothic script in bold shades.
